Q: What did David do which the Philistines were setting up their camp?

A: While the Philistines were setting up camp David was in a stronghold (the cave of Adullam),

where he longed for water from the well in Bethlehem which was occupied by a Philistine garrison. 
Q: What did the sound in the tree tops  mean? 

A: The sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees signified a divine signal for King David to attack the Philistines, indicating that God had gone before him to secure victory.
